Talking About the Invisible: An Awareness Gathering for Healthy Living Environments
On May 14, a special gathering hosted by Liv Hospital Vadistanbul, in partnership with Kärcher Türkiye and with the contributions of Happ Health, MLP Care’s digital health platform, began with an opening speech by Liv Hospital General Manager Dr. Mehmet Akif Benk. The event focused on allergies that become more prevalent during the spring months, invisible risks in homes and indoor spaces, the importance of air quality, and ways to create healthier living environments.
During the event, Dr. Ender Saraç discussed natural protective and supportive approaches to allergies, while drawing attention to the role of air quality and hygiene in our living spaces in supporting overall well-being. Guided by the message, “Every breath is precious. Because well-being sometimes begins with the air we breathe,” the event emphasized that health is closely connected not only to our bodies but also to the environments in which we live.
A Multidisciplinary Health Discussion with Specialist Physicians
The event was moderated by Yağmur Kalyoncu. Invisible risks in living environments were explored from the perspectives of different medical specialties. In the field of dermatology, Specialist Dr. Meryem Ayşit discussed the effects of allergic reactions, which become more common during the spring months, on the skin. She also addressed how environmental factors may trigger skin sensitivity and highlighted the importance of maintaining hygienic living spaces for skin health.
In the field of Pediatrics, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Adem Dursun shared insights into children’s immune systems, allergic predispositions, and the invisible risks they may be exposed to in indoor environments. He particularly emphasized the effects of maintaining good air quality and hygiene conditions in homes, schools, and shared spaces where children spend time.
In the field of Pulmonology, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Ömer Ayten shared information about allergens that affect the respiratory tract, indoor air quality, and respiratory complaints that increase during the spring months. He explained the role of dust, particles, and invisible environmental factors that accumulate in living spaces, highlighting the importance of maintaining healthy indoor air conditions.
In the field of Otorhinolaryngology, Prof. Dr. Selçuk Güneş discussed how conditions such as allergic rhinitis, nasal congestion, postnasal drip, and upper respiratory sensitivity may affect quality of life. He noted that allergic symptoms that become more prevalent during the spring months should not be regarded merely as temporary discomforts, and that greater awareness and specialist evaluation can help support a healthier lifestyle.
Factors Affecting Health in Living Environments Were Discussed
The event addressed elements in living environments that often go unnoticed but may have a real impact on health. Air quality, cleaning habits, exposure to allergens, the hygiene of environments where children spend time, respiratory health, and sensitivities that increase during the spring months were evaluated through expert insights.
Participants gained valuable information about the effects of environmental factors—often overlooked in daily life—on allergies, respiratory complaints, skin sensitivities, and overall quality of life. The event once again demonstrated that healthy living is directly connected not only to individual habits but also to the conditions of the environments in which we live.
